HOW TO CLEAN SILK ?

HOW TO CLEAN SILK ?

Handwashing is always the best and safest method for washing particularly delicate items like silk. (some may prefer DRY CLEAN).

Hand Washing is Best

  1. Fill a basin with <= lukewarm water 30℃/86°F.

Fill a basin with <= lukewarm water 30°C/86°F is the ideal temperature for silk to be hand-washed.

  1. Add a decent amount of silk detergent in lukewarm water.
  2. Let the garment soak for 5-10 minutes (no longer than 30 minutes).

Soak the silk item and leave it to soak for 5-10 minutes.

  1. Agitate the delicates around in the water.

Take the silk item and gently plunge it up and down in the water to move the water through the fabric and wash out any dirt or residue. This motion simulates the motion of a washing machine but is much more gentle.

  1. Rinse the silk item <= lukewarm water (30℃/86°F).

Take the silk item out of the water and rinse the silk item under the clean water till it runs clear, and all the detergent soap suds have been washed out.

  1. Use a towel to soak up water after the wash.

Use a clean white towel to soak up the moisture from your silk item, but don’t rub or wring the thing.

  1. Hang dry or lay flat to dry. Please avoid direct sunlight exposure.
  2. To bring your silk garment back to sheen and softness, iron using low heat or steamed to keep your pieces wrinkle-free.

Machine-wash Possible.(Not recommended)

  1. Before you toss your silk pieces into the washing machine, sort them with the same color of silk. We recommend washing one piece at a time.
  2. Use a protective mesh bag/laundry bag to avoid silk fibers tearing.
  3. Add a decent amount of silk detergent to the machine.
  4. Machine wash with cold water under 30 degrees and begin washing on a delicate cycle.
  5. We do not recommend spinning silk fabrics because it can cause wrinkles and tears. However, if you are unable to wait for them to naturally air dry, spin your silk product in less than a minute.
  6. Use a clean white cloth or towel to soak up the excess water and moisture.
  7. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY.
  8. Hang dry or lay flat to dry. Please avoid direct sunlight exposure.
  9. To bring your silk garment back to sheen and softness, iron using low heat or steamed to keep your pieces wrinkle-free.

Avoid direct sunlight exposure.

Direct sunlight can damage silk as it is a natural fiber, as it contains the same protein that our hair is made of, and it bleaches and breaks down in sunlight. Then hang it dry if possible without prolonged direct sun exposure.

Avoid Ironing or use cold iron only.

We do not recommend ironing silk. If you still prefer to iron, we suggest doing so at the lowest temperature and inside out to avoid burning the silk fibers. Silk bedding will wrinkle after drying but should straighten after a night or two of use. Pro tip: Placing the silk on your bed while it is still slightly damp will eliminate wrinkles.

HOW TO CLEAN SILK ?
There are several simple things you can do to keep your silk stuffs looking clean and new.

1.Why has my Silk lost shine?

Silk can loose its shine when the fibre roughens up. Which is caused when washed too hot, with a wrong detergent or when exposed to too much UV light, deodorant or perfume. A hint of vinegar at the end of a washing cycle (or in the fabric softener compartment) may help to get its lost shine back.

2.How do I get the shine back on Silk?

Fill a tub or large container with cold to luke warm water and carefully and slowly move the pieces back and forth. Use enough water, exchange it and add a tablespoon of vinegar per litre to let it sit for a few minutes. Do not rinse once removed from the vinegar-water, just press it out carefully, let dry flat until it is just a little damp and iron inside out.

3.How do I remove stains from Silk?

Try not to rub silk. Instead try to dab some silk detergent on the stain, let is soak for a few minutes and wash as usual. Stubborn spots can be soaked in detergent for 20 minutes and gently dabbed out with a cotton cloth.

No matter what kind of silk products, to maintain the luster and texture of silk, you need to pay attention to it when you care.
